Word Bank Update 2025.02

Latest additions to the glossary:

bounding box

In 3D space, an invisible “container” that provides constraints to where FX or simulation will be visible or be affected. In 2D space, like in Comp, it’s the rectangular “surface area” so to speak or the perimeter of an object or element (regardless of it being partially or entirely ‘on camera’). In both 3D and 2D, the bounding box defines the boundaries of which images can be seen or affected. Here’s a more detailed definition by Encord: link

ghost hours

Working extra hours or more than the regular time, without claiming it for pay or logging it. Personally, something I think you should not be doing.

HMC / head-mounted camera

Equipment used in motion capture to record facial expressions.

Pearson’s Law

When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported back, the rate of improvement accelerates.

tangent lines / “tangenting”

A note on composition when lines or edges on a frame touch or intersect. It’s often a kickback to adjust the perspective, camera placement, or staging in order to avoid the distraction and/or direct the viewer’s eye towards the intended subject.

teaser

A small snippet/edit of the film used for promotional purposes, but is shorter in duration than a trailer.

trailer

A longer version of a teaser; a short edit of the film used for promotional purposes without giving away the full plot.

Disclaimer: These descriptions are less technical than their complete definition.
They are simplified to be more understandable for folks who are new to the pipe.
